ManorCare, or HCR ManorCare is by far one of the largest chains that provide nursing home care along with other care facilities in the U.S. With over 500 facilities in 32 states, it is a major presence in the long-term and assisted care industry. They are based out of Toledo, OH where their cooperate offices are located.
As previously stated, more states have ManorCare facilities then don’t. 32 states encompass the 500 plus locations, 275 of which are Medicaid program facilities. They have facilities in their home state of Ohio and many in Florida. They are more based in the eastern to Midwest states, with locations in Delaware, Connecticut and in Illinois as well as dozens of other states.
In the terms of Medicare ratings, bigger is not always better. For HCR ManorCare that is definitely the case. In their home state of Ohio, their 5 Medicare facilities listed as ManorCare are all currently ranked overall with 2 or less stars, well below average. In Illinois, their 3 locations are also overall ranked at 2 stars. The 3 in Florida also are 2 stars. Kansas ranked the same, all well below average.
ManorCare has a huge network of health care facilities, although nursing homes do make up the majority of the facilities. Some of the other services they provide:
- Alzheimer Care (50 locations)
- Hospice Care, the 3rd Largest Provider in the U.S.
- Independent Living
- Home Care
Lawsuits Involving ManorCare for Neglect and Patient Injury
As with any large nursing home chain, ManorCare has its share of lawsuits. Recent lawsuits range from claims of malnutrition and neglect leading to a resident’s death in West Virginia, to a man that died from being allowed to fall off a gurney onto the pavement in Iowa. Yet another suit was filed just in September 2012 for the death of a woman in their Whippany, NJ location after she was strangled by another resident and negligently not given immediate medical attention.
