Criminal charges have been brought against three nursing home workers on duty the night an Alzheimer's patient wandered from Texas nursing home to his death.  The three were employed in various capacities at a facility known as Tumbleweed Nursing Home on the evening of February 3rd of this year. Hidden Camera Catches Nursing Home Worker Abusing Paralyzed Stroke Patient

First-degree felony abuse charges have been filed against a nurses aide at Castle Pines Retirement Home in Lufkin, TX.  The aide identified as Johnetta Dashaw Phillips, was responsible for caring for a patient who was left paralyzed from a stroke and suffers from dementia.  Despite earlier complaints of abuse by the patient's husband to administrators at Castle Pines, the facility claimed it was unable to take any action because the disabled wife was unable to identify her abuser. Family Claims Nursing Home Failed To Protect Elderly Woman For Brutal Assault At Hands Of Intruder

A nursing home negligence lawsuit has been filed against Brookdale Senior Living Center for failing to protect its patients.   Janice Maier's family brought the lawsuit against Brookdale after she was physically abused by an intruder to the Texas nursing home.  A police investigation concluded that 25-year-old Daniel Villarreal pushed the back door of the nursing home open and entered Ms. Maier's room and began choking her.  Mr. Villarreal remains in police custody and has been charged with Injury to an Elderly Person, a 1st degree felony. Alzheimer's Patient Wanders From Texas Nursing Home To Her Death

  Authorities are now looking into how 85-year-old, Edna May Sides, managed to wander from Hillside Plaza Nursing Home without the knowledge of nursing home staff.  On July 15th, Sides dead body was found a short distance from the facility.    Initially, the nursing home told the family that Sides passed from 'natural causes'.  However, when the family learned that Sides wandered from the facility, they notified the Cherokee County Sheriff and the Wells Police Department. "The family thought it was a little strange, so they went to the Justice of the Peace in Alto and then called the Sheriff's... Nursing Home Manager Accused Of Stealing From Resident

Adelita Rosas, a manager at an Austin nursing home stands accused of stealing more than $2,000 from an elderly resident at Maggie Johnson Nursing Home.  Rosas admittedly endorsed and cashed a check made payable to a resident and then gave the funds to the resident's family, yet she claims the situation is an innocent misunderstanding.  "Of course, I had to sign the back of the check.  Because he (the resident) didn't have his ID, they wouldn't cash it for him," said Rosas. Can someone please let me know what drives a person to physically abuse a defenseless elder? Is it empowering?  Is it done out of frustration? Does it just feel good?
