Hypothermia Confirmed As Cause Of Death In Nursing Home Wandering Case

//   I remember the not-so-distant past when my four-year-old son was in his door playing mode. Doors would slam, hardware would break, but my wife and I were grateful as long as he stayed inside.   Obviously, anyone seeing a toddler running around unchaperoned would (hopefully) call the police and advise them that his parents should be evaluated to see if they are in sound mind to care for their child! Much like a child, elderly nursing home patients-- with conditions such as Alzheimer's and dementia-- face the same risks when they leave the... More

Lack Of Basic Medical Training Apparent During Investigation Of 23-Year-Old Man At Texas Nursing Home

One week after arriving at DFW Nursing & Rehab 23-year-old Even Fleming was dead.  The young man was admitted to the Texas nursing home for rehabilitation following a car accident that left him with a traumatic brain injury (tbi) and multiple facial fractures.  On September 14th, a CNA called a nurse at the facility after she noticed that Evan was not breathing. Rather than initiate CPR, the nurse scrambled to locate Evan's medical chart to determine what his families were with respect to resuscitation.  In fact, seven minutes went by between the time the condition was recognized and chest compressions... After just a day of jury deliberations, the jury has awarded the deceased patient's family almost $600,000 for physical pain and suffering, mental pain and anguish and subsequent medical bills. Like  many cases involving bed sores (also referred to as: pressure sores, pressure ulcers or decubitus ulcers) the nursing home argued that the patients... More

Family Of Attorney Who Fought For Justice Of Those Wrongfully Accused, Now Seeks Restitution From Nursing Home Where Father Was Abused

By all accounts, Attorney Don Brown was the kind of guy I sure would have liked to know. As a smart and tenacious lawyer, Mr. Brown stood up for the little guys to make sure justice was done.  In the most well-publicized case he worked on, Mr. Brown exonerated Clarence Lee Brandley St., was was wrongfully charged, convicted and sentenced for murder. Even after he received well-deserved recognition in the Brandley matter, Mr. Brown continued to serve the less fortunate in the community by representing those whom he believed deserved zealous representation. Despite his legal accomplishments and community recognition, Mr.... More
