Staff at the nursing home noticed Russell Gary Dettlinger fondling a female dementia patient at the facility in a common area used for watching television.   Mr. Dettlinger was immediately removed from the facility and charged with aggravated indecent assault  and indecent assault.  This is not a random act for Mr. Dettlinger as he was convicted of sexually assaulting a child in 1993. Despite the wrinkles... More

Murder charges may soon be filed against 62-year-old Ardyce Nauden, after he beat brutally Andres Cardona at Chicago's Columbus Park Nursing & Rehab Center.  The beating occurred after Cardona allegedly tried to take Nauden's lunch. Lastly, the individual was a convicted sex offender, living freely and completely unknown to the other residents. Alzheimer's Patient + Sex Offender= Trouble

This report of an Alzheimer's patient who was sexually assaulted by her co-resident (a registered sex offender) demonstrates the extreme vulnerability of nursing home residents with dementia and Alzheimer's.  Nursing home's must take extra precautions when handling Alzheimer's patients.  Unlike most nursing home residents, who are capable of most daily living needs, many with Alzheimer's are completely dependent on the nursing home staff for every need- feeding, bathing, medication and toileting. What makes this story particularly disturbing is that the 'victim' of the sexual assault is probably incapable of identifying the perpetrator.  Consequently, there is a chance that this individual...
