Hazing Type Abuse In Mississippi Nursing Home

Recent national headlines regarding abusive nursing home workers appear almost surreal.  Abusive people caring for the most vulnerable seems commonplace.  Nonetheless, I was particularly disturbed to hear the report of nursing home abuse involving nurses at a Mississippi Nursing Home.  Clarionledger.com reports, two employees of Graceland Care Center have been arrested for crimes involving abuse of vulnerable adults.  According to the Mississippi Attorney General, Jim Hood, the arrests of the nurses were made following indictments by a Mississippi grand jury. Half Of Nursing Home Residents Wrongly Drugged

Ever go into a nursing home in the middle of the day?  While the rest if the world busy about their business, many nursing home residents are sound asleep or staring blankly at the ceiling.  Even may of the residents who appear to be awake have a dulled look in their eyes. Study Links Medication Use With Falls

How many medications do you take?  If you can't count the number of medications on one hand, studies suggest you should sit down.  Researchers at the University of North Carolina have determined that seniors who take four or more prescription medications have two to three times the risk of falling as seniors who take fewer medications.  Some of those drugs, the researchers say, may actually contribute to the risk of falling.
