Nursing Home Fails To Alert Patients To Admission Of Convicted Child Molester

$29 Million Sought From Nursing Home In Case Involving Molestation Of Comatose Resident

The legal guardians of a a comatose nursing home resident who was molested by a licensed practical nurse at a Virginia facility have filed a nursing home negligence lawsuit against the facility in Norfolk Circuit Court.  The lawsuit alleges officials at Chesapeake Health and Rehabilitation should have known the nurse, Mark S. Albright, was prone to to such behavior.  The lawsuit seeks $29 million in damages. Police say another nursing home employee reported that Albright put his mouth on the victim's breast. Nursing Home Staff Does Nothing To Stop Known Molester From Assaulting Disabled Woman

A female resident at the Grace Living Center in Edmond, OK  was recently assaulted by another resident with a known history of molesting other patients.  According to reports, the victim was admitted to the nursing home only 14 hours prior to the incident.  Making the matter worse is that the victim was disabled from a medical condition and it impossible for her to defend herself from the attacker. Solution To Sex Offender Problem- Separate Them

Recent congressional testimony has highlighted the presence of sex offenders and other violent offenders amongst the general nursing home population. The American Health Care Association asked Congress to help improve the tracking of sex offenders and develop a definition of "sex offender" in an effort to improve residents' safety. Oklahoma State Representative Kris Steele, who recently spoke before Congress, has come up with a solution to ensure the safety of the elderly in nursing homes. Bye Bye Criminals

Criminals will no longer be able to work in Illinois Nursing Homes.  More than two years ago, Illinois Governor Rod R. Blagojevich signed a House Bill 2531 into effect to protect nursing home residents.  Under the new law, nursing homes must do a full background check, including running fingerprints on a national database, prior to hiring employees who have direct interaction with residents.  In addition to employees at nursing homes, the new law also screens prospective employees at: community living facilities, home health agencies, hospices, assisted living facilities, day training programs and community living arrangements.
