Recognizing that the development of a bed sore during an admission to a hospital as something that simply should not occur, many facilities have begun to categorize their development for what they truly are--- a serious medical error. Where Will Nursing Home Residents Go When Medicare Closes Dangerous Facilities?

I was reviewing the AARPBulletintoday, and they ran a story about Kentucky nursing home that was cited for reports of alleged nursing home abuse and neglect by nursing state nursing home inspectors.  Winchester Centre for Health and Rehabilitation received a Type A citation- the most serious nursing home citation a state can give-- for problems related to 'medical errors' and consequently the federal government will terminate its Medicare / Medicaid funding. Feds Investigate VA Nursing Home For Dangerous Care

The Justice Department is investigating the quality of care at the Minneapolis Veterans Home in Minnesota.  "Essentially they want to know if the civil rights of residents mights have been violated by not getting the care they should have," said Gil Acevedo, deputy commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Veterans affairs, that operates the facility. The List Of 'Never Events' Grows

Effective 10/1/2008, hospitals and nursing homes will no longer be able to seek reimbursement from Medicare for medical conditions deemed preventable.  The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is asking states to coordinate Medicare and Medicaid policies to prevent facilities from billing Medicaid for preventable medical errors for individuals who may be eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid.  Most nursing home residents are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid.
