Social Worker Indicted After Financially Exploiting Tennessee Nursing Home Resident

A grand jury indicted, Douglas Harris, following allegations relating to the financial exploitation of a mentally disabled resident at the nursing home where he was a social worker.  According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), Harris was director of social work at Brookhaven Manor.  During a period between November, 2007 and March, 2008 Harris unlawfully persuaded the resident to give him: a $20,000 check, cash, and a luxury van. Engagement Ring Stolen From The Hand Of Disabled Resident In New York Nursing Home

In a brazen display of greed, a nurse's aid entered the room of a disabled New York nursing home resident and removed her engagement ring directly from her hand.  Local police say Chad Smith, a nurses aide at Eastern Star Nursing Home will be charged with third-degree grand larceny. After Smith removed the engagement ring from the resident's hand, he used a nail clipper to pry the diamond from the setting.  Smith took the loose diamond to a local pawn shop where he apparently received $300 for the stone.  The stone's actual value was estimated to be more than $4,000.... Nursing Home Staff Does Nothing To Stop Known Molester From Assaulting Disabled Woman

A female resident at the Grace Living Center in Edmond, OK  was recently assaulted by another resident with a known history of molesting other patients.  According to reports, the victim was admitted to the nursing home only 14 hours prior to the incident.  Making the matter worse is that the victim was disabled from a medical condition and it impossible for her to defend herself from the attacker. Audio Recordings Used As Evidence In Conviction Of Health Care Worker

A former employee of a state-run group home for mentally disabled people was banned today from working in the health care industry after pleading guilty to a charge of negligent cruelty to a person. Gerald Guay,was sentenced by Judge Gary White in Superior Court in Hartford to a five-year suspended prison sentence, three years' probation and 100 hours of community service.
