Charges Dropped Against Man Accused Of Sexually Assaulting His Disabled Wife

Felony sexual assault charges have been dropped against a Wisconsin man for having intercourse with his comatose wife.  Prosecutors' case against the man relied on videotapes evidence of the man engaging in intercourse during visits at the Divine Savior Nursing Home in Portage, Wisconsin. However, the Fourth District Court of Appeals ruled that the videotapes are inadmissible in the case. Nursing Home Fails To Alert Patients To Admission Of Convicted Child Molester

    "No, we don't divulge that to family members." The List Of 'Never Events' Grows

Effective 10/1/2008, hospitals and nursing homes will no longer be able to seek reimbursement from Medicare for medical conditions deemed preventable.  The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is asking states to coordinate Medicare and Medicaid policies to prevent facilities from billing Medicaid for preventable medical errors for individuals who may be eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid.  Most nursing home residents are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid. Nursing Home Employee Steals Money From Residents

Financial deceit is the most common form of elder abuse.  An Alabama nursing home employee took advantage of her position as an accounts payable clerk to write checks against nursing home residents' patient trust fund.  Anne Marie Jones, plead guilty to two counts of first-degree theft and one count of second degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.  Over a two year period Ms. Jones stole $97,036 from residents' accounts at South Haven Manor Nursing Home. Murder At All Faith Pavillion

Chicago Police charged Solomon Owasanoye, a 50-year-old West Cermak resident, with first degree murder of an All Faith Pavilion Nursing Home resident.  The victim, Ivory Jackson, a 77-year old resident at All Faith Pavilion died following an assault.  Mr. Jackson was struck in the head and developed an infection.  All Faith Pavilion has a long history of fines for violating Illinois laws. Caregiver Accused Of Rape

A 44-year old woman was raped in Kent Nursing Home in Seattle.  The victim was particularly vulnerable with mental and physical impairments.  The rape was not discovered until the woman had a miscarriage and DNA testing confirmed that the act was done by an employee of the nursing home.
